Surau attack in Malaysia

Surau attack: 'We are not convinced', 24 August 2010

Most of us have an idea who the main culprits behind this are - those who are afraid of losing their power.'
Surau attacked with red paint
Sarawakian: This has to be condemned in the strongest term no matter what your religion is. Don't you get the feeling that someone is trying to create racial tension in the country?
For the past few weeks, like clockwork, you have one racial and religious issue almost on a daily basis. I hope Malaysians are not stupid enough to fall into their trap. Most of us have an idea who the main culprits behind this are - those who are afraid of losing their power.
Anonymous: This is an absolutely outrageous thing to do. We need to respect other religions as we would like our religion and places of worship to be treated as sacred. Could it be an act by Umno to incite racial intolerance by hiring thugs to do this dirty job? Umno's credibility is so low now.
Lvbala: Those who vandalise the house of God should be brought to justice and punish. This act can't be tolerated and unforgiven. If there is anyone or any political party behind this, then they should treated as betrayers and terrorists.
Ferdtan: Most people can guess who are the real culprits behind the splashing of red paint on the walls of the Seremban surau - the same kind who burned churches, organised cow- head demonstrations and the throwing of pig heads into a mosque. This includes the politics behind the 'change of CM's name with Agong's name' in mosques in Penang.
For heaven's sake, have some respect for the good Muslims in Malaysia in this holy month - respect the sanctity of the religion. Playing politics in the name of religion is the worst of sins.
Pemerhati: Umno and BN will use every dirty method and any blatant lie they can think of to eliminate the opposition and stay in power and plunder the country.
They have used cow heads and pig heads and the Allah controversy in the recent past in the hope of raising communal tensions and starting some sort of racial clashes. This will then give them an excuse to carry out draconian measures like arresting the leaders of the opposition under the ISA or declaring a state of emergency, and then carry on ruling and stealing.
In fact, all these actions to incite the races are a strong indication that BN is very worried that they might lose the next elections, and hence, are resorting to these type of tactics so as to have an excuse not to hold elections and continue ruling indefinitely like the generals in Burma.
Md Imraz Muhd Ikhbal: All of these malicious acts of vandalism to the houses of worship stem from the common divisive ideology sowed by a racist and corrupt government to create tensions in the society in their futile attempt to distract the public away from the filth of their administration. Try better next time. We are far more civilised and not as racist as you think we are.
Victor Johan: The majority of the rakyat are in a Catch-22 situation. In police investigations, we don't trust. In the Malaysian forensic team, we can't trust.
It would have been a simple CSI-type investigation that could have taken a few hours to complete. There are fingerprints on those broken bottles, the track marks on the ground, footwear prints, etc.
It is common sense to know and understand that these works, and probably more, is the doing of a bankrupt political party that will do anything to cling on to power.
Artchan: All commentators here seem to think that this has been masterminded by Umno, and that is a serious credibility problem Umno has to live with. No one believes them anymore. Would Umno members continue to put their faith in a party that is hell-bent on provoking racist sentiments?
Call Me Jibby: With MCA questioning Malay rights, and Umno defending their 'ketuanan' and the New Economic Policy, someone is trying to spark off a racial conflict or riots. Another possibility is Ops Lalang, just like what happened in 1987.
Now I wonder what will the Umno goons react to this vandalism but I'm pretty sure they will come to the conclusion of the attack of the 'kaum pendatang/penumpang' before any investigation is done.
Alexander Yuan: Oh, boy. Perkasa, Umno and their partners in crime (Utusan Malaysia, Berita Harian) will be having a field day on this matter.
Kenzo: I guess Umno is more desperate than most people think. I suppose they will do anything to make sure they can continue cheating the rakyat of billions, which was supposed to be used to help Malaysians but instead ended up as commissions or in BN-connected bank accounts.
Can Malaysia be saved in time, or will it end up like Zimbabwe?
Dr Krishna: What an irresponsible act. All faiths in the world and all places of worship should be respected.
Lim Chong Leong: This is another Umno plan to incite racial and religious discomfort. Just like May 13, 1969, it was all Umno's doing. Let's be patient. If it was really some angry Chinese, they would have used a certain animal blood instead of red paint. Just like the pig's head was wrapped airtight in garbage bags the last time, this indicates someone else did it.
Alice: Splashing red paint on the wall and back door is something what Ah Longs would do.
1citizen: I think all idiots who use race for political reason in this country must be banished. I don't look at my friends as Malay, Chinese or Indian, etc. We are just friends. The main culprits of this are the politicians - BN and Pakatan Rakyat both. I call on all Malaysians to stand united against race politics. Please stop targeting places of worship.
Fido Dido: I appeal to all Malaysian regardless of race and religious belief to stay united and fight the troublemakers. Let sanity prevails. The clear plan is to agitate a state of racial chaos so that the government can declare emergency rule.
Let us all prevent this rule from taking effect. Let us stay calm and together fight the criminals. Let us all usher in Merdeka with hope, peace and love. Together we can eradicate corruption, draconian laws for the right to our freedoms.
MW: I would like to say "Syabas, all Malaysians" for being mature enough not to react to provocations. From cow-heads to church burnings to surau vandalism to Perkasa vs Chua Soi Lek and the sandiwara over the 30 percent bumiputera equity... they've tried and tried. and they failed.
Let this latest 'incident' be another 'syok sendiri' failure, to send a message to those responsible. We stand united against extremism.
