"Lily's Room"

This is an article collection between June 2007 and December 2018. Sometimes I add some recent articles too.

Catholic News from Malaysia

Today the latest issue of Herald (Vol.14, No.25), a Catholic weekly newspaper from Malaysia arrived here.

Articles my attention was paid are:

1. Frankly, you were wrong: Pope tells Blair(p.1)
Tony Blair wants to become a Catholic, but the pontiff did not hesitate to criticise the former British PM’s policies on Iraq and other issues.

2. Keeping vigil for our freedom of faith (p.5)
More than 500 Malaysian of different ethnic and religious backgrounds gathered at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm on June 19, 2007. Many were holding candles while some held placards and posters which read ‘Uphold the Federal Constitution’,‘We are all Bangsa Malaysia’,‘Promote freedom of Faith’,‘Secular is not anti-religion’, etc.

3. Gaza convent sacked (p.7)
On June 14, a school administered by the Sisters of the Holy Rosary was demolished in the Gaza Strip. In the chapel adjoining the sisters’ convent, the crucifix and a statue of Christ were broken and prayer books burned.

4. The era of Islamic law in full control of Gaza (p.8)
Hamas military wing spokesman said, ‘The era of justice and Islamic law has arrived.’

5. Armed men kidnap eight Christian students (p.8)
The kidnapped victims are Syrian and Chaldean Catholics from the village of Qaraqosh−a predominantly Christian village near Mosul, northern Iraqi city.

6. Some ways to improve the CSS(Catholic Students’ Society) (p.13)
Now it is time to try and overcome the most difficult battle−getting the authorities to allow the society to go on without discrimination or disturbance. This is very difficult especially in a country like ours (Note: Malaysia) where although there is freedom, our freedom is with boundaries that restrict most of our choices.
