Penang Islamic council to probe claim of attempt to convert Muslims, 7 August 2012
BUTTERWORTH - The Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP) will investigate into an allegation of foreign tourists attempting to convert Muslims in the state, its president Datuk Mohd Salleh Man said.
He hoped the enforcement division of the Islamic Religious Department would assist the council in the probe.
He told this to reporters at the presentation of Aidilfitri aid organised by Zakat Pulau Pinang (ZPP) here today.
On Thursday, a newspaper reported an attempt by two Europeans to teach their religion to people in the state when Muslims were about to break the fast.
Following the report, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom urged MAINPP to take appropriate action.
Earlier at the function, Mohd Salleh handed over a mock cheque for RM3,443,972 to ZPP chairman Ellias Zakaria. The money would be distributed to the poor and needy in the state.
