Apologise for 'demeaning Islam', MCA chief told, 2 November 2011

An NGO linked to PKR has given MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek 48 hours, from today, to apologise for making ‘degrading remarks’ about hudud law.
“If he fails to do so, Jingga 13 will not hesitate to bring up the matter in an audience with the Agong,” the NGO said in a memorandum submitted to Chua at the MCA headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
Chua had on Oct 29 reportedly said that PAS' intention to implement hudud law will have a negative impact on foreign investment and tourism.
Jingga 13 coordinator Fariz Musa said the comment “demeans Islam” as hudud is stipulated in the Quran.
“His statement has caused unease among Muslims and could potentially cause inter-religious strains... It's a serious issue... and we don't want this sort of culture to pervade,” Fariz said.
Twenty members of Jingga 13, who displayed placards reading 'Don't challenge Islam' and 'Don't be insolent', handed the memorandum to Chua's aide Giam Say Khoon.
They also chanted 'Chua Soi Lek is insolent' several times during the 10-minute demonstration, which was observed by five uniformed police personnel.
Fariz said Chua's statement “is false propaganda” and that the MCA leader had no right to question the validity of hudud law.
“Hudud is only applicable to Muslims... we ask that he stops making statements that demean it,” he said.
He also urged the police to investigate Chua for making such statements.
