RM48,000 Raised in Sibu for Church Building in Petaling Jaya , 23 June 2010
KUALA LUMPUR, 23 JUNE, 2010: A fund-raising dinner here last night raised about RM48,000 for the construction of the RM5.8 million new church of the Council of Churches Malaysia(CCM) in Petaling Jaya.
CCM president Rev Dr Thomas Philip said at the dinner that the new church would benefit the people as it was very close to the University Hospital.
This is the first time that Sibu is hosting dinner and the 13th triennial assembly of the CCM, an ecumenical fellowship of churches and Christian organisations in the country.
Founded in 1947, it is one of the three groups forming the Christian Federation of Malaysia.
Dr Philip said the three-storey church would have, among others, a chapel, a multi-purpose hall, hospitality rooms, book and souvenir shops.
