Religious Liberty in Malaysia

Yesterday I received another e-mail of invitation from a secretary of NECF Malaysia (National Evangelical Christian Fellowship, Malaysia) to attend a consultation organized by the Religious Liberty Commission of NECF on 11 August 2007.
After 50 Years of Independence, non-Muslims especially Christians are so worried about their future and the country’s direction whether it is heading for secular or Islamic.

The objectives of the consultation are:
1. Assess prospects for religious liberty and explore new social/legal initiatives to strengthen religious liberty.
2. Inform the public on trends and current controversies of religious rights and multicultural politics.
3. Explore Christian public theology for social engagement and develop resources that help in strengthening Religious Liberty and Pluralistic Democracy.
4. Facilitate networking among lawyers and Christian leaders who are addressing current issues and development pertaining to religious liberty and Islamization.

Among the 12 presenters including the organizers, I know at least 6 persons. I am afraid I will not be able to attend it on that day, but I am very concerned about it. I look forward to the publication as its findings and outcome.
