Online database on Muslim converts soon, 2 December 2013

The Malaysian Islamic Development Department, or Jakim, will launch e-muallaf next year, a database on Muslim converts.
Its deputy director-general (Human Development) Datuk Razali Shahabudin said one of the aims of having the database was to detect the action of some converts who were claimed to have gone through conversion a number of times, besides updating the information on converts.
"After this, no one can deceive the Islamic Religious Department and the database will also ensure that the converts will not be overlooked in the Islamic missionary programme," he said after opening the two-day National-Level Muslim Converts Convention in Kota Bharu, yesterday.
Razali said Jakim was now in the final stage of study on implementing the database before it would be launched.
Earlier in his speech, he said that based on records up to 2012, there were 105,079 Muslim converts in the country.
He reminded the converts to be wary of threats faced by Muslims from the enemies of Islam in the form of erosion of Islamic faith through entertainment, food and fashion.
"I hope Muslim converts will hold strong to Islamic teachings and not be influenced by the persuasion of people of other faiths who promise and give them aid in cash and kind, but with an ulterior motive for them to leave Islam," he said. - Bernama, December 2, 2013.
