16 'Shiites' fail to give statements, to be charged, 22 December 2010

Sixteen 'Shiites' have failed to give their statements to the investigating officers of the Selangor Islamic Department (JAIS) despite being called on to do so between Dec 16 and today.
Sharom Maarof, the assistant director of JAIS' planning and strategy section, said that they will be expecting another person to submit his statement tomorrow.
He said only one person showed up for the statement recording today. According to him, one person failed to show up on Dec 16, another on Dec 17, seven on Dec 20 and another seven on Dec 21.
“We had sent notices to the 128 'Shiites' on Dec 15, the day they were arrested in Gombak, to come and give their statements.
“There were some who came earlier than the date given in the notice and had submitted their statements to the officers in charge.
“The remaining 16 who had failed to give their statements will be charged in the court,” Sharom told Malaysiakini this evening.
Sharom also said that they will send a report to the prosecutor next week for the case to be mentioned in court.
“The court will summon those who failed to give their statements,” he said.
