Banned book: Cops quiz Kim Quek, 18 October 2010
by Hazlan Zakaria
Kim Quek, author of the banned book 'The March to Putrajaya - Malaysia's New Era is at Hand', was questioned by the police at Bukit Aman today.
"I was called in as a witness, to assist in their investigations of my book which is being investigated under the sedition act," he told reporters in a press conference afterward.
The author said that prior to the interview, he was informed by the police of a report lodged against him. However, they refused to furnish him a copy.
Quek, who arrived at Bukit Aman at 2.10pm and met the police at 2.30pm said he was asked a multitude of questions pertaining to the articles in his book.

However he said that he remained silent and did not answer the questions throughout the hour-long interview, exercising his right under section 112(2) of the criminal procedure code, which provides for witnesses not to answer questions unless called to court.
Quek was accompanied by his lawyer Aston Paiva and about seven supporters including family members as well as columnist Josh Hong and social activist Wong Chin Huat.
His book was banned late last month by the Home Ministry after it was accused of inciting hatred against the constitution.
The ministry's secretary-general Mahmood Adam said the book, is "not suitable for general reading".
Quek said that he will challenge the ban on his book in open court, adding that his lawyers are in the process of finalising their paperwork and will file their suit sometime next week.
