New Bishop for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Malaysia
At the Extraordinary Diocesan Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Malaysia held on 1st November in Kuala Lumpur, the Rev. Dr. Solomon Rajah was elected as the 4th Episcopal head of the church.
He will take office in 2010. In the period till then he shall be working closely with the Bishop Julius Paul who is due to retire in 2010 (July 14th).
Bishop-Elect Dr. Solomon currently serves on the faculty of the Seminari Theoloji Malaysia as a lecturer, a position he has held since 1994. He will continue to serve STM until the end of 2009.
He is also one of the most senior members of the clergy and brings with him rich and varied experiences in the pastoral and teaching ministry.
CCM welcomes the Bishop-Elect into the family of CCM churches and look forward to his leadership and support.

Lutheran Bishop for Malaysia Killed in Guatemala , 30 November 2008

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala – The head of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malaysia is among three people killed in a boat accident on a Guatemalan lake.
Bishop Julius Paul had attended a church conference in Guatemala and was visiting Lake Atitlan as a tourist. He drowned along with a Frenchman and a Guatemalan when the boat they were traveling in sank. Three others are missing after the Nov. 22 accident.
The boat was carrying 13 people between the towns of Santiago Atitlan and Panajachel.
The 30-year-old boat operator has been taken into custody for questioning.
Alfredo Chinchilla, Malaysia's honorary consul general in Guatemala, confirmed Paul's death on Monday.
Thousands of tourists visit Lake Atitlan each year.
