Coptic Orthodox Church of Malaysia
Three representatives and a legal counsellor of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Malaysia visited the CCM office on 16th May in order to familiarize themselves with the work of the Council.
The Coptic Orthodox Church has in the past one year established a congregation in Melaka and were received as an affiliate member by the Board of Management on 7th April 2008.
Rev. Fr. Jonathan Issac, from the Diocese of Sydney led the delegation which included a deacon, who is a Malaysian.
They were met in the CCM by the President, Rev. Dr. Thomas Philips, the Treasurer, Bishop Philip Lok and the General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Hermen Shastri.
Rev Fr. Jonathan expressed the joy of the Coptic Church to be part of the national ecumenical body of the country.
As a young orthodox congregation, he said his church is eager to fellowship and share in the work of the Council in order to promote ecumenism.
On behalf of his church, he also presented an icon to the President of CCM.
Rev. Dr. Thomas Philips expressed the Council’s joy of receiving another orthodox church as a member of the Council “With its rich history, and deep theological tradition, the Coptic Church will add to the depth of ecumenism in the country,” he said.
