Islam threatens Christianity according to churchman , 28 June 2008
An member of the General Synod of the Church of England, attending a breakaway church meeting in Jerusalem, has said that the UK Government needs to be more strict in preventing the growth of Muslim communities.
Alison Ruoff said she believes believes the Labour Government is soft-pedalling on Muslims who don't want to integrate with other communities in Britain.
Ruoff earlier this year called for a halt to mosque building in Britain.
At the Jerusalem meeting she said the Archbishop of Canterbury had pointed to the inevitability that elements of Sharia would be introduced in the UK.
She said the leaders of the church hadn't done enough to put the church message across.
"Our Government is allowing it to happen out of political correctness, but it should be protecting our values and heritage," she added.
Over 1,000 conservative Anglicans have been meeting in Jerusalem this week to combat liberals who they say are departing from the Bible's teaching by supporting gay clergy.
Next week the General Synod, the Church of England's parliament, will gather in the UK to discuss the introduction of women bishops, at which stage the breakaway groups may leave the church.
