As I wrote here on 5 July 2007, the library assistant of the STM (Seminari Theoloji Malaysia) did send me the recent publication by the MCCBCHST(Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism) on the religious issues to warn the authorities and the public in Malaysia. Today I received it by post.
The title of the publication is ‘Unity Threatened By Continuing Infringements Of Religious Freedom: Note of protest by the MCCBCHST’ which sounds very strong and harsh.
I understand non-Muslim minorities’ fear and anticipations towards the Islamisation in Malaysia, but if the non-Muslim leaders raise their strong voice repeatedly, then some so-called ‘hardliners’ among Muslims will also stiffen and tighten their attitude.
I believe, therefore, ambiguities and moderation is the best way in Malaysia, although it may leave some compromises and something unclear.
