Time has changed! When I started studying about Malaysia more than fifteen years ago, professors at my alma mater told me that Malaysia is a happy-go-lucky country and nothing else. “How odd it is for you to do such a study?”, one of the professors discouraged me by saying so. The main reason was their specialties were totally different.
A college friend of mine also did not seem to be interested in my new direction. “Your life is already finished!”, she said jokingly and laughed.
Compared with those days, we can safely say that the situation is almost opposite. Japan has changed but Malaysia has also changed!!
Young researchers who willingly challenge to create new ideas and new fields always encourage me most.
